Current Pitching Opportunities

BBC World Service Open Call

Written In Air is currently accepting pitches for the 2026/2027 BBC World Service Commissioning Round.

We work with reporters and producers on 30 and 60 minute features for The Documentary, including Solutions Docs.

For this strand we are particularly looking for current global stories. They should be reported and take listeners on the ground. This is not really a series for projects based in the UK and US (though producers can be based there!), but if ideas take place in those countries, they should bring an international perspective or have unprecedented access to sources.

Beyond The Documentary, we will also be considering pitches for the following strands in this round: Witness History, In the Studio, and Heart and Soul. If you are not familiar with these programmes you can learn more about them from through clicking the preceding links or read more about these editorial opportunities here.

Our company is committed to working with veteran audio producers, new audio makers and freelance journalists and writers who may not have audio production experience (though we will pair you with a producer).

🗓️The deadline for pitching Written In Air is 21 August 2025 @ 23:59 PM EST🗓️

📻 Please send any questions you may have to info@writteninair.com 📻
